Computer Based Testing Questions

Why do I need to provide a unique email address when I apply for a certification at ASNT?

ASNT has enhanced MyASNT and our internal process to better serve the applicant. A unique email address will allow us to better communicate with you and allow you to visit MyASNT and track process of your certification application.

Who is Pearson Vue?

Pearson VUE provides computer-based testing for information technology, academic, government and professional testing programs around the world. Pearson VUE provides a full suite of services from test development to data management, and delivers exams through the world's most comprehensive and secure network of test centers in 175 countries.

When can I schedule my examination?

Before you can schedule your examination, you must have already:

  • Submitted your examination application for certification through ASNT
  • Paid your certification and examination fees in full
  • Been notified by ASNT that your application has been processed and approved
  • Been notified by Pearson VUE that you are authorized to schedule your examination

How do I schedule my examination?

You can schedule your examination online or by phone. When scheduling online you will need to create an account including login and password with Pearson Vue. You will be able to pick a site that is close to you, including any ASNT’s Partner locations.

ACCP program applicants, please note: your practical exam must be scheduled at an ASNT AEC location

What if I want to take an exam at an ASNT AEC or Partner location?

You will still need to create an account with Pearson Vue and select the AEC or ASNT Partner at that time.

What forms of ID are acceptable for candidates to provide at the time of admission?

You will be required to present two forms of original (no photo copies), valid (unexpired) IDs; one form as a primary ID (government issued with name, recent recognizable photo, and signature) and one form as a secondary ID (with at least a name and signature, or name and recent recognizable photo). Carefully review the ID requirements prior to your exam appointment using this link. You will be required to take a photo prior to beginning the exam.

Pearson VUE test center staff will match the name on your ID to the name in their system (your name as it appears within your ASNT Account). The name on your ID must match exactly, no exceptions.  If you need to make changes to your ASNT file, please contact the Certification Department.  Changes need to be in writing and requested prior to scheduling your exam with Pearson VUE.

If your ASNT account name doesn’t match the name on your ID, please contact ASNT at least 72 hours prior to the exam in order to get your record updated.

What time should I arrive to take my exam?

We ask that you arrive at the test center 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This will give you adequate time to complete the necessary sign-in procedures. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, you may be refused admission and exam sitting fees may be forfeited.

Do I need to bring a calculator?

No, an electronic version of a Texas Instruments TI-108 basic function calculator and a Texas Instrument TI-30XS scientific calculator are provided within the CBT exam. If you wish to familiarize yourself with the way these calculators function prior to your exam, please download the PearsonVue tutorial and practice exam.

I have never taken a computer based test before. What can I expect?

Pearson Vue has online material to help you become familiar with their exam software.  For information, see the Pearson Vue Tutorial and Practice Exam.

Will there be a translation dictionary available?

Yes. All ASNT exams are administered in written US English. There are five languages available in the online exam dictionary: Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and British English. The translation provided represents the single most common usage of the word and we do not guarantee that each translation given will match the intended usage in context of the ASNT certification exam.  Here is a sample of the dictionary.
