Sparse Reconstruction-based Ultrasonic Imaging for Flaw Detection

In this study, an innovative inverse method based on sparse estimation is proposed to reconstruct a flaw image from SH wave fields radiated from or scattered by a flaw. First, the radiated or scattered wave field of SH waves is expressed in the form of a surface integral, which is converted into the domain integral with unknown moment tensor. Assuming that the flaw occupies a limited area in a target region for inversion, sparse estimation is then applied to obtain the unknown moment tensor from radiated or scattered fields measured at observation points, which leads to flaw imaging. The applicability of the proposed method is demonstrated by numerical simulation.
