The Next Revolution in Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation: What and How?
This Opinion Paper is intended to inspire, encourage collaboration, and engage the community on the need to address what could be the next revolution in nondestructive testing and evaluation. The author has termed this revolution “NDE 4.0” in line with the fourth industrial revolution, which is referred to as Industry 4.0 (Singh 2018). Others in the industry have introduced the challenges and opportunities for NDE 4.0 within the new ecosystem of cyber-physical systems for production, the Internet of Things (IoT), and management of big data (Meyendorf et al. 2017). Here, let us explore how to adapt an innovation process to successfully pursue this evolution in NDE.
