Determining 2-2T Equivalent IQI Sensitivity in Radiographs

As an NDT technician performing radiography, you have probably heard that the image quality of radiographs should be equivalent to 2-2T or better. However, this is not accurate in accordance with Table T-276 (“Equivalent IQI Sensitivity”) as published in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section V: Nondestructive Examination (ASME 2017). This paper demonstrates that Table T-276 (ASME 2017) is not 2-2T; and at certain thicknesses, the ability to comply with the IQI sensitivity and definition is very improbable.
