
Fracture mechanics–based acceptance criteria are becoming more common in weld inspection and are being used quite regularly. If properly applied, lower reject rates can be expected with such criteria. Application of these criteria, however, requires certain specific inputs—primarily, an accurate measurement of discontinuity size.
