Fatigue Performance Evaluation of 2Cr13 Plate Quenched Specimens Using the Magnetic Memory Technique

2Cr13 steel is widely used for industrial construc-tion. Heat treatments are applied to 2Cr13 steel in order to meet the needs of various conditions. In this study, regular industrial martensitic 2Cr13 stainless steel specimens were quenched under different temperatures. Then, tensile and fatigue tests were conducted in order to study the effects of the grain sizes, stress performance, and magnetic characteristics of the samples on their fatigue lifetimes. The relationships between the normal amplitudes of the magnetic memory signals and fatigue lifetimes were analyzed based on the results. In addition, the signal characteriza-tion rules during the fatigue process were studied in order to develop a mechanical damage evalua-tion technique based on magnetic memory. The results indicated that the proposed magnetic memory tests accurately determined the extent of damage to the 2Cr13 steel specimens during the fatigue process.
