Optimal Utilization of Conventional and Phased Array Inspection Techniques in Ultrasonic Testing of Complex Components of Gas Turbines and Aircraft Engines

In view of increased demands for jet-­‐engines in the world, there is a requisition to increase the production rate of different jet-­‐engines components. Discs are the main components of jet-­engines; NDT presents a significant contribution to the time necessary to manufacture them. One of the ways is to use Phased Array inspection techniques. Despite obvious advantages in the use of Phased Array ultrasound, there are certain limitations, which do not allow throwing away conventional inspection methods. The optimal combination of both methods is presented.
