Onsite Metallography Supporting Pressure Vessel Inspection and Reliability

In-situ metallography can be a useful tool in supporting inspection, reliability, and the repairs of pressure vessels. This technique can assess steels for thermal deterioration during service, either in a preventative inspection role or when responding to a failure. This tool can also be used to evaluate cracks or abnormal NDT indications if destructive analysis is not a preferred option. Ultimately, onsite metallography can be a valuable inspection tool, providing information helpful towards making informed decisions leading to increased pressure vessel reliability.
