Inspection Techniques for Tubulars Used in Oilfield

There have been several popular standards in the industry defining the commonly acceptable practice for the inspections of the tubes. These are reviewed in this paper. Several nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques used in the inspection of OCTG are then discussed, including capacitive discharging technique, ultrasonic thickness measurement, ultrasonic straight beam and angle beam, and hardbanding and the inspection thereof. Recently emerged technologies and potential future technologies are then briefly discussed.
