Acceptance Criteria for UV Discharge Detection

Equipment used for UV detection of electrical discharging activity on high-voltage electrical equipment appeared 10 years ago and has quickly spread through companies performing UV inspection. The main problem during introduction of technology is an absence of acceptable standards for performing inspection and acceptation criteria. Nowadays there are codes describing how to perform inspection. Usually criteria is a number of UVC photons detected by the UV camera in respect to part of equipment where the discharge is detected. The number of detected photons depends on the amplification level chosen, distance to inspection object and air temperature and pressure.
