Qualification Of Digital Radiography Process In Production Line

The piping systems for industrial plants, mainly in the oil and gas sector, require special attention not only by the type of product being transported but also the various internal conditions of pressure and temperature at which they are. The risks involved, if not monitored and controlled, put the entire asset, its operators and people around then in great danger. The great distances which are usually achieved by pipelines increase the chances over time, problems such as corrosion, cracks and obstructions. Due to high risk, the manufacturing standards of pipes, like API-5L and DNV-OS-F101, requires that all tubes are evaluated by non-destructive tests for welded SAW pipes. The radiographic testing is usually requested at the pipe ends because these areas are considered critical when applied in oil and gas transmission lines (linepipe). The growing demand for high end pipes, demanding better quality products, drove the development and automation of manufacturing processes to increase productivity and standardization of products, as consequence increasing need to develop methods of inspection with high productivity (automated), enabling an efficient inspection, registration and traceability of information and reduce the risk of human error. Thinking about the large amount of automated inspection equipment that are operating in the domestic market, this paper presents the importance of capacity testing and experience from equipment installed in production lines for welded pipe.
