Characteristics of Acoustic Emission and Positional Entropy of Q345R Steel in Tensile Loading at Room Temperature

Room temperature uniaxial tensile loading of Q345R steel specimens was monitored with acoustic emission testing (AE). AE hits and accumulated energy were recorded and plotted against applied load. Additionally, linear source locations were determined and the entropy of the source locations (position entropy) was calculated and plotted as a function of applied load. This position entropy was shown to correlate with applied load and associated changes in internal damage state.
