Photoelastic Visualization of Ultrasound as a Supporting Tool for Advanced Modeling Software

Modern NDT application procedure/technique development now benefits from numerous software programs targeted at the modeling of the sound fields as they interact with the components’ physical properties in scaled 2D/3D models. Visualization of the complex wave components using the photoelastic system can greatly enhance understanding of the generated signals. Diffraction, mode conversion and wave front interaction, all within the component geometry, can be viewed, thus allowing the technician to refine the planned approach. This paper will present some examples showing correlation of the photoelastic visualization system with the output from modeling software.
