New Methods in Computed Tomography with Regularized Iterative Methods and Statistical Inversion

Computed tomography calculates three-dimensional constructions of objects from sets of two-dimensional X-ray pictures that are basically line integrals through the target recorded from various angles. Usability features and quality of the imaging process depends on the mathematical reconstruction. Traditional tomography reconstruction methods, like filtered back-projection and iterative SART have been optimized and fully exploited. With several applications both in industrial and medical use, there is a need for advanced methods, allowing new measurements geometries, faster measurements and new application areas. Recent development in computational capacity enables use of modern groundbreaking mathematical algorithms. Presentation outlines the technological background of advanced reconstruction methos and includes both theory and application examples, with sample images.
