Application of Time of Flight Diffraction Technique for Imaging Cracks in Rod Specimens
Conventionally, time of flight diffraction has been applied for the inspection of weldments in components and structures. In this work, the authors have innovatively extended the applicability of time of flight diffraction technique for the detection of linear discontinuities in metallic rods. The results have been correlated theoretically. Apart from the possibility of faster and enhanced detectability especially for linear discontinuities, TOFD opens up the possibility of application in extrusions.
