Hydrogen blistering refers to the formation of subsurface planar cavities in a metal resulting from excessive internal hydrogen pressure. Growth of near-surface blisters in low-strength metals usually result in surface bulges or step-wise crack. Hence, Step-Wise Crack is advanced stage of HIC where multiple cracks parallel to pipeequipment’s surface link together to form a stair pattern and results a through-thickness crack driven by high levels of stress. Advanced NDT technology utilize for detecting HICBlisters & step-Wise Cracks and support the operating facilities in assessing plant equipment and piping for continued safe operations.
