Electromagnetic Through-transmission and its Applications

Electromagnetic through-transmission phenomena in planar and cylindrical objects were studied in order to advance the understanding of electromagnetic through-transmission phenomena before a through-transmission-based nondestructive testing (NDT) technique could be developed. Finite element analysis (FEA) was used to model through-transmission phenomena in pipes. It was found that through-transmission phenomena could be employed to develop new through-transmission-based NDT techniques. Various through-transmission probes were developed and demonstrated in field trials, including through-transmission probes for channel head inspection, magnetite blockage detection and pipe condition assessment.
