A Probability of Detection (POD) demonstration test and analysis is the best available method for quantifying the detection capability of a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) system. The two common POD analysis methods in use today, hit/miss and â versus a, are based on well-known and well-established statistical methods. However, it takes more than a statistician to do POD. Basic knowledge of NDE systems as well as a basic knowledge of the underlying statistical methods is required to ensure the methods are applied correctly and the results are valid.
