The study presented herein documents several aspects of NDTNDE use in Tennessee’s bridge inspection program. Problems faced by the department are identified, including availability of NDTNDE equipment, availability of qualified personnel, and implementation of new NDTNDE technologies. Accessibility of the structures, and need for NDTNDE methods, are also discussed for instances such as bridge decks where accessibility may be limited due to asphalt overlay (top) and concrete or steel stay-in-place deck forms (bottom).
