This paper presents an investigation into the damage detection indices of different members for a steel truss bridge. Numerical simulation is carried out to examine the efficiency of the indices, and model test is performed. The result shows that the curvature mode is effective for detecting the damage of flexible members such as bridge deck, while strain mode is efficient for detecting the damage of axially loaded truss members.
