The historical disadvantages of EMAT for in-line and in-service inspection have disappeared due to significant advances in modeling technique and sensor design, circuitry, and RF receivers. Further improvements in instrumentation, signal processing, and feature extraction joined with new high power fast electronics and computer power have allowed EMAT inspection to see a surge in applications.
