Manufacturing and service-induced damage (cracks) in critical joints may often initiate at sharp transitional areas (STA) such as weld toe, jet engine slots, steering rack teeth base, fillet weld toe, and others. Eddy current nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques are fast, reliable, and require minimum surface preparation. In this study, analysis of current state-of-the-art eddy current techniques was conducted.
