This paper addresses the potential applications of ground-based LiDAR technology for bridge monitoring and management. Recent advances in LiDAR scanning techniques have made it possible for bridge damage assessment. LiDAR scan provides high resolution, 3D optical images that can be used to quantify bridge component conditions including through-deck collision damages, large permanent deformations, overload cracking and different kinds of surface erosions.
