Guided Wave Testing of an Immersed Gas Pipeline

This paper presents a case study of the guided wave testing of a gas transmission pipeline of an approximate length of 1 km (0.62 mi), which is not piggable. Guided waves were used to screen the full length of the line and all indications were followed by a range of local tests. The findings were compared with structural integrity assessments, thus informing decisions for repair. This study shows the important and reliable role of guided wave testing applied in good practice.
