Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) in Historic Preservation Applications

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a nondestructive testing method that has emerged over the past few decades as a valuable tool in various fields from utility location to archaeology. With the advent of higher-frequency, portable GPR systems, the technique can now also be used in numerous historic preservation applications. This paper will present a brief introduction to GPR technology and discussions of some of the applications of this technique for the evaluation and preservation of historic buildings, monuments, and other structures.
