Achieving high speed scanning in phased array ultrasound applications is an often sought after feature for time critical inspection needs. Volume Focusing lends itself to providing the basis for achieving higher speeds. This paper will present a comparison between two opposite applications. Inspecting thick parts with Volume Focusing can provide a very high depth of field and detectability while still inspecting at higher speeds than usual techniques. Thin parts can also benefit from Volume Focusing in the realm of even higher inspection speeds while preserving the ability to detect tiny flaws.
