Use of MsS Monitoring Technology on High Temperature Piping

Many electrical utilities have interest in monitoring pipe that is subjected to high-temperature (up to 300 °C) and experiences corrosion or flow assisted corrosion (FAC). For this issue, Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) developed a high temperature technology based on the use of the magnetostrictive sensor (MsS) technology using FeCo ferromagnetic strips bonded to the pipe with an epoxy bonding agent. The purpose of this work was to test and determine which commercially available epoxy bonding agent works best for bonding the FeCo MsS sensor on pipe subjected to an operating environment as high as approximately 300 °C.
