In order to keep customers plants competitive over their lifetime, Alstom has developed a wide range of technical innovative capabilities like non-destructive inspection techniques. A new technique aims usually to enhance the detection capabilities and to decrease the power plant outage duration. This paper presents non-destructive inspection study based on ultrasonics phased array to enhance detection capabilites and decrease the power lant outage duration. In this paper, we will present our simulation work (acoustic field calculation, phased array probe design and evaluation of the defect response) and preliminary tests on a real mock-up with EDM notches with conventional UT probes and standard PA probe.
