Ultrasonic Monitoring of Dislocations during Fatigue of Pearlitic Steel

In this paper, experimental data of the change in the attenuation coefficient and the velocity of ultrasonic shear waves in pearlitic steel are presented as a function of cyclic tensile fatigue life. These, in turn, are used to solve for the relative change in the dislocation density and loop length, based on Granato and Lücke’s dislocation damping theory.
