A brief review of the most recent developments in long-range ultrasonic guided wave testing of pipeline is presented. The benefits of phased array focusing of guided waves are discussed and some sample results are shown to illustrate the increased sensitivity to discontinuities that is obtained from focusing. The benefits of using both torsional and longitudinal guided wave modes for testing are discussed.
