Conventional ultrasonic inspection of coke drums may require the use of automated pulse echo or time of flight diffraction techniques (TOFD). The more recent application of phased array ultrasonic technology enables a faster and more accurate location and depth discrimination of the cracks detected in the welds. This paper discusses Coke Drum weld inspection.
