Atransient wave propagation solution in a multilayered panel, subjected to either longitudinal or shear waves, is derived. The solution is used to calculate the responses of a polymeric composite sandwich panel having different locations of face sheet core delamination. Numerical results show that, by measuring the top (input/output) surface displacement histories, different locations of face sheet core delamination can be readily distinguished. It is also observed that the first packet of reflected waves from the bottom of the core provides the most direct means of distinguishing delamination locations.
